When we are in a stressful situation, less blood travels to the rational thinking part of our brain as it's redirected to our limbs and muscles preparing them for fight or flight (run away or defend yourself). Meditation enables us to pause, engage the rational thinking part of our brains and consider an alternative option to fight or flight. It also helps make us more aware and mindful of the triggers that make us feel stress and learn how to process our response to them, without getting overwhelmed.
